POLICE Seat Belt Campaign
National Seat belt Campaign. |
With a national seat belt enforcement campaign starting next week, West Mercia Police are urging all motorists to stay safe and belt up. The campaign is being run from 13th – 26th June to ensure motorists are using their seatbelts and child restraints correctly and to crack down on offenders who continue to break the law. Seatbelt use is such a significant contributory factor with regards to road collisions and the resulting injuries. In the UK it is a legal requirement for drivers and passengers to wear a seatbelt, unless they have an exemption and it is the driver’s legal responsibility to ensure that any passenger under 14 years old is using the appropriate child restraint. Over the past 3 years in West Mercia 15 people have been killed and 50 seriously injured in collisions where a seatbelt has not been worn. Throughout the campaign officers will be out and about in local communities taking part in a mixture of enforcement and educational initiatives.Superintendent Steph Brighton for West Mercia Police comments: “Seatbelts save lives and help to reduce the severity of an injury, seeing that some people still risk not wearing theirs is of great concern to us. Apart from the obvious consequences if you are involved in a collision, drivers and passengers who fail to wear seatbelts in the front or back of vehicles are breaking the law and face an on-the-spot fine of £100. If the case goes to court, the fine could increase to £500, so we’re urging all motorists to take our advice and ‘Belt up’.Follow the link below for Seat Belt information to assist everyone for reference.https://intranet.westmerpolice01.local/smiiupload/n/15702/9846.pdf |

POLICE Notice re Heating Oil Theft
![]() Your first sign that your tank has been attacked is often when the heating stops working. You may assume there is a fault in your system and an engineer will then diagnose the problem as being that there’s no oil left! Sometimes a smaller amount is taken but often the whole tank may be drained. The methods can be very crude, including drilling or punching holes in the side of the tank and then filling jerry cans, but you can take steps to prevent these losses: Monitor the level of oil in your tank regularly. Hide the tank from view from the road using hedging, fencing or walling but make sure it is visible from your house. Consider security lighting to cover the tank, a PIR system can also alert you in your house to movement at the tank. Consider CCTV options. Ask your neighbours to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the police. Look after each other! Padlock the valve but consider that thieves may smash the valve but this involves noise and a lock can deter a less determined thief. Make sure your gates are locked when possible and certainly at night, to make it more difficult for a thief to escape with oil. Lock your doors at all times if the tank is situated in an outbuilding. Consider alarm devices which create an alert if the oil level suddenly drops or if the lock is attacked. These can send alerts to your phone. |

Heat for Health (H4H)
What is the Heat4Health Project?
Heat4Health is a new project team, within Act on Energy, a charity who, for many years, have been delivering energy efficiency support on behalf of Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Solihull and Coventry local authorities.
Please visit our website www.actonenergy.org.uk
Our project aims to help those residents with long-term health conditions and disabilities where their illnesses are exacerbated by a cold home to achieve a healthier lifestyle. We offer support to individuals to achieve affordable warmth by improving energy efficiency, providing energy advice and where possible reducing fuel bills and accessing grants. For example, a patient frequently attending a GP practice for respiratory or mobility illnesses may be living in a hard to heat, cold, damp home or can’t afford to put the heating on or they may be in need of help with energy supplier problems which is causing them much anxiety.
What support do we give?
As Act on Energy, we provide the following free support, open to anyone:
- an easy 2-step referral route
- Home Energy Assessment/via telephone or Zoom/Teams, to assess and discuss individual residents’ needs
- Free low-cost energy installs (low-cost energy efficient light bulbs, draught proofing etc)
- Individual support throughout the process
- help with COVID consequences on fuel poverty (higher energy bills, reduced servicing of boilers, energy supplier, potential second wave in winter months, loss of smell so unable to detectgas heaters etc)
- help with creating an affordable warm home including addressing energy costs, fuel debt, etc.
Working with local professionals
We work with local professionals to help ensure individuals have access to information and support services. We hope you will work with us by referring residents who are most likely to benefit from support to us. We would also really appreciate your help to raise awareness of the support available, for example:
- Social media posts to use on your Facebook page
- E-newsletter advert for use internally and externally
- Leaflet distribution to residents / professionals to provide information about Act on Energy
- Invite us to present interactive training/presentation e.g. Fuel Poverty and Health) via Teams/Zoom for frontline staff to aid them in looking out for those in need before crisis
- Invite us to attend events, when appropriate.
